Dermal Fillers
Dermal Fillers
The are currently in excess of 50 dermal fillers available. this provides patients and clinicians with a "tool for every job". Deciding on the right filler is a matter of preference but also experience and expertise. This is where the many years of experience Dr connolly and his team have enbale you to be confident you are receiving the best and most effective treatment for your lines and wrinkles.
At Regency Medical Clinic we hold safety as paramount and we always use filelrs which are ntural andcan be broken down by the body. Very long lasting fillers often achieve longevity by adding non degradable components - silicon, dental cement, polyvinyl microspheres.
At Regency we use the best available dermal fillers Restylane, Perlane, Belotero, Teosyl and the Collagens - Zyderm and Zyplast.
Apart from the collagens which are bovine derived fillers and require a skin test all the other products are hyaluronic acid derivatives, bereak down to water and carbon dioxide and need no prior skin testing.
What are they?
Restylane, Belotero and Teosyl are gels made from Hyaluronic Acid. It is a chemical found naturally in the body and skin and breaks down to form water and carbon dioxide.
Is it safe?
It is made under strict laboratory conditions and is a NASHA (Non animal source Hyaluronic Acid). Because it is completely broken down and reabsorbed you cannot get persistent problems that are seen with "permanent" fillers.
Where can it be used?
It can be used in any area of the face that requires a line smoothed or a furrow raised. It can be used to enhance the lips, create definition about the cheeks, lift nasolabials and marionette creases and soften fine lines about the mouth and eyes.
Are the results immediate?
Results can be seen immediately but often a few days are needed to allow any redness and swelling to settle.
How long will it last?
Treatments last for about 6 months and often longer.
Can I have other treatments with this?
Hyalurons are compatible with many treatments such as botulinum, Skinceuticals, IPL and are ideal after peels and in combination with Sculptra.
What is the treatment like?
The skin will usually be numbed with topical or a local anaesthetic injection. Because the Hyalurons are more viscous than Collagen numbing the skin is more important. Dr Connolly uses a dental injection to numb the lips to allow you a pain free treatment.
Are there any side effects?
Slight bruising or redness is most common and will settle over a few days. The lips will often take up to a week to settle down. Any dermal filler may trigger off a cold sore in susceptible individuals. You cannot end up with a "trout pout" from Restylane or Belotero unless you insist that Dr. Connolly should give you this look.
Will my skin feel and look natural?
Because these products are made from the same components that are already in the skin they will blend in and smooth out as if they were part of you. You will feel the extra support from furrows that are lifted. You may feel the products deep under the skin but the surface will look soft and smooth.
What is different about Belotero?
This is a pure gel whereas the others are microscopic particles. This means that Belotero will flow into all the tiny unseen spaces and provide a more diffuse rejuvenation and lift. Usually Belotero needs a two stage treatment; the first to rejuvenate and fill all the deeper unseen spaces and the second to lift the line or furrow. Remember a "quick fix" is often not the best result in a few months time.
