How is the treatment done?
First of all the lips are numbed to ensure your treatment is comfortable. In most instances a dental block is used so that your lips are almost completely numb. The required volume is then injected into the lip or lips and sculpted in such a way to produce the desired enhancement.
Are the results immediate?
The results are visible immediately. There is often reactive swelling so that your lips may look larger than the final result. Your lips may feel larger due to the effects of the dental anaesthetic.
What if I don't want large lips?
Not everyone or every face suits large lips. Many women who look for lip treatments simply want to redefine the lip border or restore lost volume. Dr. Connolly will use his expertise to advise you about how best to achieve the perfect pout for your lips. The lip border and the cupid's bow can be defined and the red part given more volume and made rounder. Fine line on the lip and at the edge of the mouth can also be softened.
Will my lips still feel the same?
For the first week the lips will feel tender but after that they will feel perfectly normal. The products used are very soft and will always pass the "kiss" test. You may be able to detect the product in the lip edge but your partner will not.
Can uneven lips be made symmetrical?
Yes. More product can be injected into some areas that need an additional lift and creases and asymmetry smoothed out.
Do I need to have both lips enhanced?
Everyone will note that their top and bottom lips are different sizes and in most cases people will simply want a top lip enhancement only. Sometimes a small amount is placed on the lower lip border to add definition.
Will my lips look natural after a treatment?
The trout pout is a reflection of the "go large" obsession with today's society. Where lips are concerned quality not quantity is what counts. Dr. Connolly will always strive to give you an enhancement which is subtle but stunning and created specifically for you.
How long will it last?
Your lip enhancement will last for about 6 months. Smoking and sun bathing will reduce the longevity of any skin treatment.
What about the long lasting injections?
Dr. Connolly does not use any injectable products that the body cannot completely reabsorb. Long lasting injectable products contain material that the body cannot metabolise and last longer because of either scar tissue formation or "foreign body" reactions. If you have a problem with one of these you will not be able to remove the offending injection. Many are familiar with the celebrities who suffered this unfortunate problem.
Are there any side effects?
Bruising and tenderness are the commonest and will settle within 1 week. Swelling usually subsides over 3 to 7 days. Swelling is usually evident at the time of treatment but may arise a few days afterwards. Those prone to cold sores may suffer a flare up. Arnica and antihistamines can help reduce bruising and tenderness.
